well we did it. me and carol finally pulled the trigger on a motorhome after years of talking about it at the kitchen table and never doing anything. i retired off the rail line in june, carol goes part time at the clinic after the holidays, and the plan weve had taped to the fridge forever is simple. chase 70 degrees south for the winter, come home to branson when it warms up. i guess we are snowbirds now.
we went back and forth on class a versus class c for a year. carol wanted the big windshield and room to actually live in it for months at a stretch, and driving a friends coach at a rally settled it. trouble was every clean gas class a at the dealers up here was priced like it was brand new.
end of august a 2019 Winnebago Vista 29V showed up on lucas-motors.com. gas coach on the Ford F53 chassis, the V10, 24k miles, one owner before it went through them, with the floorplan and the real sofa we wanted. the price was a good several thousand under the comparable Vistas i could find at dealers within a days drive, and those had more miles.
my first thought was what is wrong with it, so we did our homework. history report pulled, clean, regular service. the listing had a pile of photos and a full walkthrough video, cold start and a slide run. i asked lucas motors to send an independent rv tech where it sat and they set it up no fuss. the writeup came back roof and seals good, no soft spots in the floor, the big stuff fine.
the only two things he flagged were the drivers side slide seal sticking a little and the house battery being tired. both cheap and easy. i factored it in, bid the coach, won it under my walk away number, and paid to have it transported rather than fly out and drive it home green. title came clean in our name a couple weeks later.
so thats the story. anybody else here buy their rig through lucas-motors.com? first motorhome for us and im still stunned how smooth it went. curious what else moves through them, we have friends asking already.
